U.R.W. Expedition 13 - The Arenigs

18 - 20 July 2003

Arenig fawr

I arrived at the campsite - Tyn-y-Cornel at about 13.40 on Friday afternoon. The only ones to have arrived at that time were Mark Gowans, Michael Mussard and  Sandy Saunders - at least that was the tale told me by the camp site operator. The three had gone out to look at the surrounding hills so there wasn't anyone actually on site!  I went for a spin to Pant-yr-Hedydd the usual starting point for a walk up Arenig Fawr to see what the area looked like, also to take some photos. Later I returned to the site only to be met at the entrance by the above three just going out again to visit Bala, so again I was on my own on site !

I decided to go into Bala for some grub so Anne , my wife, and I went to Bala Lake to the little cafe (excellent value and service). After about three quarters of an hour I decided to make one last visit to the campsite in the hope of meeting somebody - anybody !

This time (about 1700.hrs) I was lucky. I could see immediately the orange shape of Roger's 30 year old mountain tent. The site operator allowed me to drive to the pitch and I met up with the following expeditioneers :-

David Laight seen in the last photo setting up his new Argos three man tent arrived just after the photo session.
